a circular path

16 years ago when I was pregnant with our oldest son, I made some chalk pastel drawings for his nursery. I crouched in the floor and worked and worked on them. I still love them.

I did another set sometime later.

And then, after that, I barely touched the pastels. Maybe because they are super messy. Maybe because I started doing a lot of pencil sketches after that. Who knows why? All I know is that I have picked them up again and it is delightful. What is not delightful is that I still have a tendency to crouch in the floor when I use them. That is decidedly less than comfortable when you are almost 40 than it was at 22. I’m going to attempt to move to the table to work on them.

My one observation for 2026 is that I want to make more art. I have been working at it already here in the end of 2025. It makes me feel alive.
