bad protest art and a new medium

When I was sitting quietly in my office, I got an idea. I’ve been mourning the news from Minneapolis and our shared loss of humanity in how we treat each other. What if my piece this week could (poorly) illustrate that?

Yes, people dying is a loss of humanity. But enactors of violence are also losing pieces of themselves.

But we are also seeing people come together to care for one another, to speak up.

Total conversation twist ahead: brace yourself.

When I was at the art store (Hobby Lobby, guys), I bought some gouache paints to try out. But I had not tried them out. But this morning since the boys were out of school and we have been passing around the flu, I announced it was time for a group art project. And I got out my gouache paint.

It was a fun trial run. I do love the gouache and, like the pastels, just need a lot more practice with color. Which is, of course, what these weekly experiments are about.
