Delights 7: practicing gratitude
This week has been hard. We’ve been snowed, rather, iced in to our home. I haven’t been anywhere since last Saturday night. The kids have been doing remote learning. A friend asked me how it was going and I responded with “There’s a reason I don’t homeschool.” Nothing against homeschooling, it’s just my particular mix of children are quite needy in regards to school and I am only one person. Two of my kids have gotten sick. Last night at 6pm, one had a fever of 103.3 and another of 102.6.
I’ve been spending the last two days reminding myself to practice gratitude. I’m so grateful for a washer and dryer at my house, for a warm place to be. For technology that lets the kids talk to their teachers and maybe some classmates for a few minutes. For a fridge and cabinets full of food. For baking. For Harry Potter movies and art projects done in tiny moments. For good books finished in the bath and writing for a few minutes during quiet time. For sick snuggles, for shoveling snow for a neighbor, for art videos on YouTube.
It’s been a hard week and there is so much grace. I’ll have another coffee in a few minutes. I’ll take temperatures. I’ll pull on a warm sweatshirt. It’s a catch-up day so the school work will be slow and we will wait to see if there is more snow. My heart will whisper “thank you, thank you, thank you.”
